Coast Guard rescue helicopter Image: Sam Boal/Rollingnews.ie 3 Comments center_img Image: Sam Boal/Rollingnews.ie Jun 24th 2017, 6:45 PM By Sean Murray A 14-YEAR-OLD boy is in a critical condition, after a yachting incident off the coast of Cork earlier today.A spokesperson for Valentia Coast Guard told TheJournal.ie that they were called to the scene off Skibereen this morning.It is believed the boy was struck in the head by a sailing boom.With the aid of Rescue helicopter 117, he was airlifted to Cork University Hospital.His condition is currently described as serious.In a separate incident, Howth Coast Guard was called to assist after a 53-year-old sustained serious head injuries while kitesurfing off the coast of Dublin at Sutton.A nurse helped to treat him at the scene, and was joined by the Coast Guard who assisted in transporting the man to a nearby hospital.At present, his injuries are also described as serious.Read: A statue of the late Terry Wogan was unveiled in Limerick todayRead: ‘I don’t think my election as Taoiseach actually made history.
