first_imgStar sprinter Christian Coleman will be eligible for this month’s world championships and next year’s Olympics after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency dropped his case for missed tests because of a technicality. Coleman is the reigning U.S. champion and a favourite in the 100m. He faced a possible sanction for three “whereabouts failures” over a 12-month period. That meant he either did not fill out forms telling authorities where he could be found, or he wasn’t where he said he’d be when they came to test. But the World Anti-Doping Agency’s interpretation of the rule backdated his first failure to April 1, 2018, instead of the date it actually occurred, June 6, 2018. His final failure was April 26, 2019. The USADA said yesterday that because there weren’t three failures within 12 months, it would not pursue the case.last_img read more

first_imgAfter Ayumu Goromaru scored 24 points including an brilliant try to keep Japan in the game, Hesketh finally pierced South Africa’s desperate defence in the dying seconds to claim the famous win.Japan’s players went on a lap of honour with national flag amid a roars of support from the 29,000 crowd.“It’s a fantastic achievement,” said coach Eddie Jones who will leave the team after the World Cup.“We worked really hard for this — but look for me personally its right up there with my best days in the sport,” said the coach who guided Australia to the 2003 final and was member of the Springboks coaching team for their 2007 World Cup triumph.South Africa went into the game expecting a big win but Japan were never overawed. The Asian champions, who will host the 2019 World Cup, had won only one previous World Cup game against Zimbabwe in 1991. They have drawn two and lost 21.But they are determined not to be the whipping boys of this tournament.– Never say die –Japan could well have scored a try in the sixth minute, fullback Goromaru bursting through the midfield. However, Goromaru went on his own instead of passing to the player outside and ran into a Springbok wall.He made up for this by slotting over a penalty to put the Japanese 3-0 up in the eighth minute but missed another attempt a few minutes later. The ‘Boks were rattled and captain Jean de Villiers was angry when fullback Zane Kirchner kicked the ball out on the full from outside his 22 handing the Japanese great field position. The South Africans managed to regain the ball and pressed back. Some terrific defence kept them out for a while, although Japanese captain Michael Leitch received a warning for an over zealous tackle on De Villiers, but eventually they cracked and Francois Louw went over.Lambie converted for 7-3.The South Africans spurned a golden opportunity for a second try a couple of minutes later but a diving Bismarck du Plessis failed to catch the ball and touch down — his embarrassment accentuated by having the whole thing shown again as it was referred to the third match official.Du Plessis’s glaring miss proved even more costly as after sustained pressure by the Japanese scrum Leitch touched down provoking roars of delight from their fans and large parts of the neutrals in the 30,000 crowd.Goromaru converted to give the Japanese a deserved 10-7 lead.It wasn’t to last long as more powerful pack play ended with Bismarck du Plessis scoring the ‘Boks second try — Lambie failing to convert gave the two-time world champions a two point edge at half-time of 12-10.Goromaru briefly restored Japan’s lead with an early penalty in the second-half.However, their opponents hit back with a third try soon afterwards, lock Loudewyjk de Jager breaking a tackle on the 22 and proving an unstoppable force to cross the line — Lambie converted for 19-13.The impressive Goromaru added two more penalties to level the match with under half an hour remaining and at that point with a tacit admission the scrum was taking a pounding Heyneke Meyer took off his whole front row.Lambie slotted over a penalty to make it 22-19 but back came the incorrigible Japanese to level again through the metronomic Goromaru. The match once gain swung back to the Springboks, however, when replacement hooker Adriaan Strauss broke through the soft Japanese centre and shrugged off with disdain Kotaro Matsushima’s tackle to score their bonus point fourth try.Handre Pollard — who had replaced Lambie — converted for 29-22.If the Springboks thought that was the final say they were soon to be disabused of the notion as a scintillating back move saw Goromaru go in and then convert to bring the scores level once again at 29-29.Pollard gave the ‘Boks a three point lead — the decision to go for goal being roundly booed by the crowd — with seven minutes remaining.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Japan players celebrate after Japan’s full-back Ayumu Goromaru scored a try during a Pool B match of the 2015 Rugby World Cup between South Africa and Japan at the Brighton community stadium in Brighton, south east England on September 19, 2015. first_img2 Chelsea want to sign Emerson Palmieri, the Roma defender, this month. talkSPORT tell you all you need to know about the left-back who could be Stamford Bridge-bound.Key details:Full name: Emerson Palmieri dos SantosDate of birth: 03/08/1994 (age 23)Place of birth: Santos, BrazilHeight: 1.76m (5ft 6in)Position: Left-backClub: Roma (47 apps/ 2 goals)National team: Italy (0 caps/ 0 goals)Who is he?Emerson Palmieri is a Brazil-born left-back who has played for Roma since 2015. The 23-year-old started his career with Santos in his native Brazil, making 18 appearances, and also spent time on loan at Palermo. Find out all you need to know about Emerson Palmieri below He joined Roma on a temporary basis in the summer of 2015, and the deal was made permanent towards the end of 2016. Emerson has made 47 appearances in total for the Giallorossi, adding to the 17 games he played for Santos and the nine appearances he made for Palermo.Emerson’s form with Roma saw him linked with a transfer away during the summer of 2017. Liverpool were known to be tracking him, and recent reports claim Mohamed Salah – who played alongside the full-back in Rome – has urged the Anfield hierarchy to sign the player this month.Emerson won 14 caps for Brazil’s Under-17 side, but has since changed his allegiance to Italy having been allowed to claim Italian citizenship. He has not yet played for the Azzurri, having ruptured his ACL at the end of the 2016/17 season, just days after he earned his first senior call up.Playing styleEmerson has struggled with injury this season, but, last term, he was regarded as one of the best full-backs in European football. Able to play as part of a four-man defence, or higher up the pitch as a wing-back, Emerson’s greatest strength is his creativity. His attacking stats in 2016/17 ranked him as the second-most creative and attacking full-back in Europe, behind Juventus’ Alex Sandro – another Chelsea target. He totalled – all per 90 minutes – 1.8 key passes, 1.5 completed crosses, and two successful dribbles. In comparison, the highly-regarded Marcos Alonso, who is well-known for his attacking play, failed to complete any of the same actions at least once per 90 minutes during the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.Despite Emerson’s strengths being predominantly offensive, he also won more tackles per 90 minutes than Alonso last term, and was dribbled past fewer times per 90. He is not as strong in the air and also won fewer interceptions than Chelsea’s current star, but such an offensive player is always going to have a weakness when it comes to the defensive side of the game.Areas to improveEmerson ruptured his ACL on the last day of the 2016/17 Serie A season, and he has only recently returned to fitness. He has made just two senior appearances this term, and there are doubts as to whether he will be able to continue with his energetic style of play following such a serious injury.Fitness has always been an area the 23-year-old needs to improve. 2016/17 was the first season Emerson had as a regular starter in senior football, and even then he only made 36 appearances.Though he would rotate with Marcos Alonso if Chelsea do sign him, this inability to play 50+ games in one campaign needs to be remedied if he is to make it at the top level world football.Video evidenceNotable Santos academy graduates:PeleRobinhoNeymarPepeCoutinhoGansoFelipe Anderson 2last_img read more

Redman witnessed the reveal of the official race logo, painted in the landing area at Skydive Suffolk, from midair as he approached the ground. After the logo unveiling, Redman was greeted by Erica, Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles and Crown Royal Associate Brand Manager Dany Penn. Redman was then escorted to a nearby hangar for a party where he was able to celebrate the announcement with his closest friends, colleagues and family.“What an amazing and humbling opportunity to have my organization as the official title of the Brickyard 400. This race is an icon of NASCAR, Americanism and patriotism,” said Redman after being named the winner of the 2016 “Your Hero’s Name Here” program. “I can’t wait to arrive in Indianapolis and meet the fellow finalists, the awesome race fans, drivers and crews!”Redman, of Chesapeake, Virginia, enlisted in the Navy following high school and served 10 years as an enlisted SEAL before enrolling at Old Dominion University. After graduation, Redman was commissioned as a Naval SEAL Officer. Throughout his career he served five deployments including two combat deployments. In 2007, Redman’s Assault Team came under heavy machine-gun fire and he was wounded with shots to the face and left arm. While recovering from his 37 surgeries at Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Redman wrote and hung a sign on his door which became a statement and symbol for wounded warriors everywhere. The original sign on the door now hangs in the Wounded Ward at the National Naval Medical Center Bethesda.  Redman was honored with the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medals and two Combat Action Ribbons.Following his recovery, Redman founded the non-profit organizations Combat Wounded Coalition and Wounded Wear to help combat wounded warriors overcome the wounds of war. The Combat Wounded Coalition provides free clothing and clothing modifications to combat wounded warriors. To date, the Combat Wounded Coalition has helped over 500 wounded warriors return to daily life after serving. This will mark the 10th time Crown Royal has renamed a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, and the first time a race will be named after a charity, through the whisky brand’s “Your Hero’s Name Here” program. After receiving hundreds of entries during the nomination period, five heroes were chosen as finalists and adult fans had the opportunity to cast their votes for the person they felt was most deserving of the honor. In addition to Redman, program finalists included: Piper Hill, retired Army Captain and founder of Healing4Heroes from Atlanta, Georgia; Michael Gallardo, retired Army Sergeant from San Antonio, Texas; Chris Mintz, former Army Infantryman and community leader from Roseburg, Oregon, and Leigh Ann Hester, Army National Guard Sergeant First Class and Police Officer from Murfreesboro, Tennessee.“Jason Redman’s perseverance to overcome all of the adversities he faced is truly remarkable. The dedication he has to helping veterans and families is a direct reflection of his generous nature,” Penn said. “The race on July 24 will mark an exciting event and first NASCAR race experience for Redman and we can’t wait for him to see his charity’s name in lights at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”As the “Your Hero’s Name Here” winner, Redman will receive the ultimate VIP race weekend experience, including garage tours, driver introductions and Pace Car rides. He’ll cap off Race Day by delivering the trophy bearing his charity’s name to the winner in Victory Lane.“We can’t wait to host Jason later this month at one of the most prestigious events on the NASCAR calendar,” Boles said. “This race has resonated with fans, drivers and teams with how it honors heroes, and this year’s installment is our most special yet with the Combat Wounded Coalition.”While raising a glass to the heroes in your life, Crown Royal reminds consumers to please drink responsibly. In just a few short weeks, racing fans from across the country will flock to Indianapolis for one of NASCAR’s biggest events of the summer. And despite being named the winner of the annual Crown Royal “Your Hero’s Name Here” program, which renames the Brickyard 400 after a deserving hero, retired U.S. Navy Seal Jason Redman’s name won’t be displayed around the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway – for good reason.Redman instead asked that the race bear the name of the charity he and his wife, Erica, founded. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race will officially be referred to as the “Crown Royal presents the Combat Wounded Coalition 400 at the Brickyard.”last_img read more

first_imgDiscus thrower Krishna Poonia became a national celebrity when she won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in New Delhi in 2010.But that didn’t stop a Bhilwara based multi-level marketing company from duping her of Rs 6 lakh.Soon after her Commonwealth glory, Prem Prakash of Saajan Jewellers Trade Link Private Limited, who knew Krishna and her husband Virendra, approached the couple saying investments in the firm would grow by 20 times in three years. Subsequently on December 1, 2010, the champion athlete gave a cheque of Rs 6 lakh as investment in the company.Later when the Poonias inquired from the company’s director, Rameshwar Heda, about returns on the investment, they were made to wait and even ignored. It soon became evident that the company was involved in a fraud as the Bhilwara police started getting a large number of complaints against it.After Krishna pressured the company, it gave her a cheque for Rs 1 lakh on December 26, 2011. It again gave two cheques for Rs 2.5 lakh each on January 10 and 25 this year. But the two cheques bounced. This prompted the Poonia couple to approach the Jaipur police but the SHO expressed his inability to register an FIR for want of sufficient evidence. Only a complaint was registered.Even a meeting with top police officers of the city failed to yield any result until Tuesday evening, when the complaint was finally converted into an FIR. Sadar police station circle inspector Manoj Gupta said the delay in registering the FIR was because they didn’t have enough evidence. Once the complaint was found genuine, an FIR was registered, he added.advertisementProbes have revealed that the company had promised a fourfold annual return while the principal amount was to increase 20 times in three years. The Bhilwara police have arrested 10 persons of the firm, nine were released on bail but Heda is still in judicial custody. Prem Prakash, who had approached the Poonia couple on behalf of the firm, too, has lodged an FIR against Heda for a fraud of Rs 12.23 lakh.last_img read more

first_imgFollowing the recent Wall Street Journal article “Some Firms Struggle to Hire Despite High Unemployment,” a reader commented:“The process of cutting through employment clutter has become so convoluted that great candidates are lost in the shuffle. All the keyword matching in the world won’t help you understand a candidate’s character, work ethic and potential. Employers think they are entitled to “cherry pick” to such a high degree that great applicants are being passed over. These applicants then get weary of a faceless process where their online applications go into a black hole that never gives any feedback. The system is broken. The barriers are high. Each side is screaming for help, but the other side can’t hear. Let’s stop bemoaning the problem and start figuring out how to change the system and bring people together.”Candidates send resumes into a black hole and expect nothing. Companies are inundated with resume flow and do not have the resources necessary to review and respond to each one.  Both sides really are screaming for help. This week we outline some of the reasons why the resume system isn’t working. The why is actually pretty easy. The pipes are too full. Access is easy and too many solutions have evolved with business models that rely on a heavy resume flow to monetize their efforts. The big job boards sell their value by promoting the large number of resumes they hold. Job post aggregators take postings from everywhere and make them available to everyone. And even if these positions are filled, the posting remain on the boards or floating around the Internet for weeks resulting in more flow. And of course we have resume scrapers and blasters. Scrapers get every resume they can and sell them to as many as possible. Blasters charge candidates to send their resume to every company possible. All of these efforts are designed to make a buck first, not to make it efficient to put the right talent with the right position in the right company.I can already hear the screams from vendors stating, “How dare you!” but having recruited on the Internet since 1990, founder of one of the early software companies in the space and having been around most of the solutions for years, I feel I’ve earned the right to have an opinion. So the solution? Join me next week, where I’ll share a few ideas about how to unclog the resume pipeline while still being profitable and beneficial. Remember there is a gracious solution that stops both sides screaming.last_img read more
